How to sign-up. Visas. Flights. Points of Contact. Don’t worry, we’re here. We know it’s a scary thing to sign up to do, so let us remove any and all of the other stresses too.
Getting to Mauritania is pretty easy, if a little pricey. You can fly directly to Nouakchott, Mauritania’s Capital, from:
Istanbul (Turkish Air)
Paris (Air France)
Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc)
– As well as Dakar, Algiers and Las Palmas. So get yourself to one of those cities and you’re good to go.
Once at Nouakchott Airport, our team will be there to greet you.
The Mauritanian Government have ratified our EOTS Ultra Marathon Event, and with that we have a special visa dispensation. Upon arrival in NKC airport, you’ll be brought to a room and granted your free ‘visa-on-arrival’. Our team will then meet you and bring you to the Nouakchott hotel (complete with air-conditioning, breakfast, wifi and a gym).
Once you sign-up, you’ll be given access to a Google Document for your incoming and outgoing flights. We will then arrange your (free) transport back to the airport in due time.
The trip cost is $2499, with a non-refundable deposit of $250 required upon sign-up. Full payment is due 3 months before the race.
We use ‘WeTravel’ to process our bookings and payment systems. That allows you to use your credit or debit cards, and allows for all nationalities to process international payments.
You can see more information on the Eye of the Sahara WeTravel page HERE too.
If you have any payment issues, please contact team@eyeofthesaharaultramarathon.com
Our Eye of the Sahara Ultra Marathon team has been working on the event for over 18 months. We have a ratio of 2 staff members for every racer. We have medical staff, satellite phones, and even access to a helicopter for emergency evacuation.
Food, water and shelter is provided throughout, and we’re just one full day drive away from the Capital at any stage. The event may feel like hell, but we have you covered. Don’t worry, just focus on getting over the next dune.
Upon arrival in Nouakchott, we will be staying in a 3* or higher hotel, complete with air-con, wifi, pool, gym etc.
Once we leave Nouakchott, we will be spending pre-race night, and the race nights, in the Moorish Mauritanian tents. Upon completion of the event, we will recover in a guest house in Chinguetti, and then either return to Nouakchott, or you’ll join us on the Iron Ore Train ride to Nouadhibou.
